The Blame Game
The Blame Game. This is something that has gone on from the beginning of time. People look to blame the other on issues so that they feel someone is responsible for societies mysteries if not themeless. This seems to be the case when it comes to media in society.
Today I was reading the BCC and it had an article on children being over sexed by media,(http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8537734.stm). This is an interesting and throughly researched topic among the best communication researchers. The bullet theory could apply especially to this case as an explanation for the trend. However, the article seems to blame the parents and adults in these children’s world for the issue. The blame game at its finest.
Has anyone thought to blame the producers of such content for the issue? It seems the entertainment business has lost the fact they are the elite in the business. What they might think is amusement is really role models for the ones they broadcast to. This has left a very big rift in the media of today. Look at The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. These shows are not for those who do not understand intenraitonal issues or politics. Many of the jokes leave thousands confusesd. They are for the educated elite to laugh, not of the masses. They are instead left with the violence, sex and scandal.
They confuse The Jersey Shore, for what New Jersey is really like. The reality of television becomes the reality of culture in the world. Parents and the masses are not the ones that are reasonable for the effect of media, but the gatekeepers of that media. It becomes a question of ethics. To produce or not to produce, that is the question.
